My tutoring approach is very much tailored to each individual student. Everyone has a style that they like to learn with and I want to figure out that style first and foremost before we begin. Once we start tutoring I try and work using the style students like, whether it be showing a sample question and explaining how to solve it and letting them try it out or walking through step by step. Along with teaching the specified material, I teach techniques on how to approach new problems or topic so they can apply it to future work and subjects.

Having myself experienced a variety of tutors throughout my academic journey, I know first hand the needs of students who seek tutoring. I believe the most valued point as a tutor is to have a clear understanding of the area of trouble and follow different approach depending on areas of knowledge. In maths, I believe it is important to develop a full proof method that can apply to any problem while examining certain special cases. In physics and Chemistry as well as Economics, it is important for problem solving to understand the full mechanics of a concept so that it can be applied in any scenario.

I prioritize creating an open, supportive, and interactive learning environment with students to ensure that they feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and challenges. Recognizing that each student has unique learning strategies, I adapt my teaching approach (whether that means more problem-solving, lectures, or interactive-based learning, etc...) to best cater to their needs. I want to guide students toward the answer and make sure they fully understand the concepts, as opposed to pure memorization. I hope that students will eventually be able to talk through and teach these concepts themselves. Most importantly, I want to cultivate a love of learning and curiosity in any student I teach.

Having spent years in public speech and debate, I have learned that breaking an idea down to its simplest terms with multiple viewpoints is the most effective way to convey a message. Looking at something from one angle sometimes doesn't allow complete concept comprehension. Because of this, my go-to teaching style is coming up with many ways of explaining the same thing to maximize the chance of grasping an idea. Having multiple ways to view one topic opens the mind to a deeper understanding and a complete enrichment in learning. To promote this, I let the students do the thinking while prompting them in the right direction when needed. I adapt to how students think and fit my teaching style with their pace and problem-solving conventions. I tailor-make every lesson for every student. Ultimately, it is my goal to encourage my students to make a habit out of approaching problems through multiple, and perhaps even unconventional, methods to always keep trying new things.

I believe every student is different - and every lesson should be too. In addition, interactive questioning and active recall is utilized to ensure understanding. Through my lessons, I want my students to understand the ‘why’ behind an answer.

I specifically chose to be a TA for Advanced Algebra due to the challenge it gives me to explain complicated numbers and formulas in approachable ways for students with varying senses and strengths in numeracy and math. I understand that students have different levels of background knowledge, and I always quickly adapt to their level of knowledge and learning preferences. If possible, I always explain difficult concepts in numerous relatable ways and teach multiple approaches that students can use to tackle specifically difficult problems. Through being a swim instructor, I have adopted the teaching style of focusing on the small details in students' learning and making lessons fun and enjoyable.

While I understand that different students learn through different methods and speeds, I am a firm believer that consistent practice and interactive study is the best way to internalize concepts for future application. Throughout lessons, while I will lecture if needed, I prefer to work through problem sets, ask questions, and clarify understanding through practice rather than memorization. By this methodology, students are able to think on their feet when approached with an unforeseen problem or difficult concept. I think that one to one tutoring is a great opportunity to see difficult subjects in a new light, and ultimately, I aim to enrich curiosity and passion for learning in any student I teach.

In general, my aim is to make learning both interesting and rigorous for students so they can simultaneously achieve the results they want while also developing a curiosity for the subject. I enjoy getting to know my students as individuals and learners so I can support them to the best of my ability by tailoring my teaching approach to their unique needs. In a typical session, I will try to address any gaps in their current knowledge of the course material using both school-provided and private resources, before returning to reinforce those concepts at a later session.

With both standardized and AP tests, I often encourage my students to look beyond the content. I use questions beyond the test level to solidify my students' understanding and often ask them to explain concepts in their own words such that they can think about topics coherently in their own words.Following the supervision system Cambridge employs, I often lead students through more of a discussion, talking about topics in different ways to ensure their understanding and linking separate topics in such a way that they all mould together. Only when I feel that my students' understanding is at an appropriate level do I begin to present them with practice questions. By that point, these questions are second nature to them.

When it comes to teaching, especially in a tutoring setting, it is crucial to build a collaborative partnership with my student. As mentioned in my biography, I feel that education should be something that excites students. So I tend to open my lessons by getting to know my student, to gain a better understanding of what type of learner they are and ultimately try to connect their genuine interests to their education. Beyond forming a collaborative partnership with the student, I also try to work with their parents to gain a better understanding of what they are hoping to get out of these lessons. Whether it simply be better grades or study habits, I always do my best to satisfy my clients needs. I also try to make myself available through email with my students, so they can communicate any queries they may have outside of designated class times. As I understand that an hour or two every week may not be sufficient.

In my tutoring sessions, I employ a friendly and personalized approach focused on active, hands-on learning. Drawing on my knowledge of child development and learning psychology gained from taking AP Psychology, I carefully tailor my teaching methods to the unique needs and learning styles of each student. For some, that may mean providing more visual aids and kinesthetic exercises, while for others, it involves breaking down concepts into manageable steps or incorporating their interests and hobbies. By taking the time to understand my students as individuals, I am able to create a comfortable, supportive environment where they feel empowered to actively participate, ask questions, and take ownership of their learning.
