As someone who has experienced various personal struggles with studying, something that greatly helped me in all of my high school courses would be personalized tutoring which is the tutoring approach that I also take. This would include creating lesson plans that are specifically customized the needs of each student. Additionally, I always stress the significance of going through previous mistakes to reinforce the understanding for certain concepts that may be lacking. For a typical tutoring session, I would prefer to start the session off with a large chunk of time dedicated to learning new content while leaving a bit of time dedicated to fixing mistakes and strengthening certain things that need a bit more help. With this approach, I believe that I can not only give students a head start on the materials that will eventually be taught in school, but also ensure that any significant weakness can be fixed, resulting in an enjoyable and efficient tutoring process.

Along with this, I could provide some guidance on university applications or other extracurricular-related questions they may have. I have gained extensive internship experience in the financial services space in Hong Kong, from big consulting firms to banking and am happy to advise, help build professional connections and share my experience with students to help them gain clarity if they aim to pursue similar fields.

Having spent years in public speech and debate, I have learned that breaking an idea down to its simplest terms with multiple viewpoints is the most effective way to convey a message. Looking at something from one angle sometimes doesn't allow complete concept comprehension. Because of this, my go-to teaching style is coming up with many ways of explaining the same thing to maximize the chance of grasping an idea. Having multiple ways to view one topic opens the mind to a deeper understanding and a complete enrichment in learning. To promote this, I let the students do the thinking while prompting them in the right direction when needed. I adapt to how students think and fit my teaching style with their pace and problem-solving conventions. I tailor-make every lesson for every student. Ultimately, it is my goal to encourage my students to make a habit out of approaching problems through multiple, and perhaps even unconventional, methods to always keep trying new things.

As a tutor, I like to teach with practical application in mind and have students learn with the intent of having a better understanding of not just their syllabus, but the world around them. Lastly, I think that students should be taught with the latest technology in order to have the best comprehension of their subject and so I educate exposing students to the most modern tools used in whichever discipline.

My personal philosophy towards tutoring is built on two pillars: a results-oriented approach and building connections to the real-world. More so than a conventional school teacher, the role of a tutor is to create a student's 'path-to-victory' — understanding the student's road to success on tests/exams, identifying obstacles along that route, and solving them. In that sense, I believe in starting exam preparation earlier rather than later (as the skills this training builds are useful across the course). I understand that not every student needs to master every subject and embrace this reality by focusing on results more than a typical educational system.

When I do introduce a content or strategies that extend beyond the scope of an exam, it's done because I either believe that this student wants to excel in the subject long-term, or to introduce illustrations of concepts that will help students better their understanding. The way in which I excelled in Economics, Politics and many of my other courses involved learning outside of the classroom (through activities like debating, Model UN, and my own experiences as a tutor).

My philosophy in teaching is to ensure that my students gain an intuitive understanding. Rather than route memorization, I believe that the most effective way to learn is through reason and logic. Whether the student is studying a quantitative subject or working on qualitative work, they should understand the reasons behind why something is right or wrong. Therefore, while I tailor my teaching to individual learning styles, my underlying philosophy in learning remains constant.

Once I understand where the student is and what help they need in their subject, I help guide them to solutions through their own thought processes and aid with my own knowledge when they get stuck or hit a block in their understanding.
